SCU Trace Metal Removal Media removes trace levels of metals such as copper, zinc, lead, mercury, cadmium, trivalent chromium, nickel and others from complex wastewater to levels the company says are not possible with traditional ion exchange resins.
Historically, ion exchange resins have the ability to reduce heavy metals to 25 parts per billion in typical industrial applications, according to Siemens. The SCU media achieves levels below one part per billion for most metals, the company says.
In 2010, Siemens announced it was to install a prototype membrane bioreactor to treat refinery wastewater at a Petroleum Environmental Research Forum site in Baton Rouge, La. This week, GE and officials from the City of Marco Island, Fla., have announced results of a three-year study into GE’s new LEAPmbr membrane bioreactor.
In the Marco Island study, LEAPmbr showed a minimum 30 percent reduction in energy cost, a 15 percent improvement in productivity and a 50 percent reduction in the use of membrane aeration equipment over existing GE technology.
And finally, ITT Corporation has released Flygt Experior, a wastewater pump that offers up to 50 percent energy savings over conventional pumps.
