Telkonet Inc. has announced that it will install its EcoSmart Suite energy management platform at Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers’ Westin Alexandria Hotel (pictured).

The EcoSmart platform will control existing water source heat pumps in each of the 341 rooms and 7 suites of the Alexandria, Va., hotel.

Telkonet’s products will be networked using a wireless communications infrastructure consisting of EcoWave wireless thermostats and EcoView wireless occupancy sensors that detect occupancy with high sensitivity motion and heat sensors.

Silver Spring Networks and Freestyle Technology have agreed to integrate the Freestyle Zigbee-based smart water meter module with the Silver Spring Smart Energy Platform.

Using the smart water meter module together with the Silver Spring networking platform and advanced metering solution lets the units remotely communicate, managing and supporting water meters without duplication of infrastructure, according to the companies.

Energy management software company BuildingIQ has relocated its global headquarters from Australia to the United States. The company has opened new offices in the Bay Area in California and in the northeastern U.S..

The company says the move is aimed at extending its global presence at a time when power grids struggle to cope with increasing energy demand. It is currently working with real estate investment trusts in the U.S. and Australia.
