Macy’s is retrofitting more than 117,000 halogen-based accent lighting in 86 department stores across the nation in a sustainability campaign that expects to reduce the retailer’s energy consumption by 73%.
Philips custom-designed and produced thousands of the 13-watt EnduraLED PAR38 SP15 lamps that could meet Macy’s sustainability goals, as well as provide better light quality to enhance the customer shopping experience.
The lamp has a rated average life of 45,000 hours and the potential to deliver a positive return on investment in less than one year, according to Philips.
Macy’s is replacing its 47-watt halogen lights, a step that makes it the first department store to implement the use of LED accent lighting on a wide scale. Lighting represents one of the largest components of a retailer’s energy use.
Philips’ lamp has a custom-beam angle for more control in accenting merchandise, as well as an optimal color temperature that brings out tones and characteristics of merchandise.
