EDF Consolidates 3 Data Centers into a Single Energy Efficient Model

by | Apr 2, 2010

EDF, an energy company in the UK, recently decided to consolidate several older data centers into one energy efficient model.

EDF worked with IBM to install the data center, from design to construction.

EDF said it gleaned some “best practices” from IBM.

The data center has increased airflow to improve energy efficiency. The chiller uses ambient air to help reduce energy use.

Racking systems also were maximized for chilling effect.

EDF said it expects to realize about $60 million in benefits, from reduced energy to increased business capacity.

EDF said it plans to reduce workplace energy use 30 percent by 2012.
