Food Lion, National Gypsum Adding Rooftop Solar

solar panels2Among several solar installations coming in North Carolina, Food Lion and National Gypsum are adding rooftop solar. The installations come as part of a $50 million push by Duke Energy that will add about 10 megawatts in energy, reports CoolerPlanet.

Food Lion is adding 1.3 MW in rooftop solar to its distribution facility in Salisbury, N.C. That will consist of 5,616 panels.

National Gypsum is adding 5,096 panels with a 1.2 MW capacity.

Childress Klein is adding 2,314 panels to a new building, with generating capacity of 532 watts.

The Highwoods Properties building in Greensboro, N.C., will get 7.020 panels and a capacity of 1.6 MW.

The balance of the 10 MW will likely be installed at homes and small businesses.

To complete the projects, Duke is working with the state on its North Carolina Solar Photovoltaic Distributed Generation program.
