Sustainable Power Corp. announced that it has successfully tested turning Municipal Solid Waste into biofuel using the company’s reactors.
“By utilizing Municipal Solid Waste in our reactors, we have substantially increased potential revenue because municipalities will pay the company to remove the waste rather than being forced to purchase feedstock to drive our reactors,” said John Rivera, chairman of SSTP.
These tests resulted in as much as 19.2 pounds of biofuels products resulting from 25 pounds of municipal solid waste, with an average of 18,000 BTU per pound.
In other waste news, FirmGreen has opened a Green Energy Center near Columbus, Ohio. In a public-private partnership with the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio, FirmGreen built the landfill gas processing facility and fueling station that pumps compressed natural gas processed from landfill gas.
Many companies, such as P&G, Panda Ethanol and Beijing Deqingyuan Chicken Farm Waste Utilization plant, are turning animal manure into biofuel. In January, Oregon also announced a new initiative which could turn the state’s 320 dairy farms into generators of renewable power.
