Steelcase announced it has received chain-of-custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council. The certification provides validation that the company meets FSC tracking requirements and ensures that materials used to develop Steelcase wood products come from well-managed forests.
The Steelcase Wood business operates out of a LEED-certified manufacturing facility. The facility opened in 2001 and recently changed from solvent based finishes to water based finishes, resulting in a VOC reduction of 91 percent since 2001.
In March, the company announced it will buy all the renewable energy credits produced by a wind farm in Texas, for at least the first five years of its operations.
The company has also received Cradle to Cradle product certifications and awards from the EPA’s WasteWise program. Steelcase’s corporate responsibility report can be found here.
