ConAgra Foods’ Lamb Weston business has purchased renewable energy certificates from Bonneville Environmental Foundation to offset 100 percent of the electricity used to power Lamb Weston’s administrative offices in Kennewick and Richland, Washington, and Eagle, Idaho, as well as the electricity used to produce 30 million pounds of ConAgra Foods’ Alexia-branded potato products.
In total, the RECs equal 16,656,000 kilowatt-hours of wind energy.
The company has also announced that it has joined the EPA’s Climate Leaders and Energy Star programs, as well as the Carbon Disclosure Project. The company is currently developing its specific reduction goals, according to the Climate leaders website.
Earlier this week, ConAgra Foods announced this week that it is incorporating between 30 to 40 percent post-consumer recycled plastic in its frozen meal trays. The move is estimated to divert approximately 8 million pounds of plastic from landfills annually.
