Reporting on its efforts to reach that goal, Cox says it has reduced its energy consumption by 10 percent while growing at nearly 12 percent a year.

Other steps the company has taken include:

  • Transitioning its entire fleet to hybrid vehicles, which is expected to save the company 400 gallons of gas per vehicle per year;
  • Installing an advanced lighting and HVAC control system that automatically shuts down portions of its Warwick, R.I. headquarters during off-hours, which is expected to yield a 30-percent energy savings; and
  • Implementing a power management system for its 1,500 desktop computers the company says will save $37,500 a year when fully operational.

Cox recently discussed interest in having its customers in Arizona authorize the company to install solar panels on their roofs.
