Burt’s Bees Aims For Efficiency At New Distribution Center

burt_conveyor.jpgBurt’s Bees’ has installed a sensor-activated motorized drive roller conveyor at its distribution center in North Carolina which has already helped it increase efficiency and decrease the company’s energy use by as much as 40 to 60 percent.

The Tompkins roller has helped avoid problems with storage capacity and customer shipments Burt’s Bees experienced with its recent product line expansion and business growth. (Clorox acquired Burt’s Bees in November for almost $1 billion.)

Design elements in the new distribution center have also improved operations at Burt’s Bees by reducing warehousing and transportation costs, the company says.

A warehouse control system also installed by Tompkins, a supply chain solution design consultant, is expected to improve control material handling equipment, which will also help maximize the center’s capacity, increase return on investment, and minimize operating costs, Burt’s Bees says.
