BMW Greens Data Centers

by | May 19, 2008

BMW is almost done with a three-year effort to green its data centers and desktop systems, ComputerWeekly reports.

The company is considering renewable energy sources for use in their data centers, and, in its data centers in Munich, the company is using groundwater from the city council to cool the data center.

Other green moves include replacing CRT monitors with TFT displays, switching to more efficient servers, and shared physical IT on an enterprise, regional and local business level.

BMW is also using gas from a waste dump to generate electricity for its data center in South Carolina.
