No fixed targets were set at the two-day Major Economies Meetings in Paris which brought together delegates from 16 countries that produce about 80 percent of the world’s carbon emissions, AP reports. The meetings were “dominated” by debate over how much to cut GHG emissions.
Bush’s speech on emissions that was made last week was a topic of conversation. “The president gave a disappointing speech,” German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel said in a statement issued in Berlin headlined “Gabriel criticizes Bush’s Neanderthal speech. Losership, not Leadership,” Reuters reports.
A South African participant said unchecked global warming would cost the world $200 billion a year to overcome.
The meetings were launched last year by the U.S.
