chevy_volt.jpgGeneral Motors is running “down to the wire” as it readies its plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt for a planned launch in 2010, GM CEO Rick Wagoner told reporters at the Beijing Auto Show.

The Volt is one of the first attempts to adapt lithium-ion batteries to power a car. Wagoner said GM was moving closer to picking a winner in the race between two rival battery suppliers, LG Chem Ltd  and Continental AG.

GM showcased a hybrid version of its Buick LaCrosse sedan, which is being assembled in China and launched in the country this summer. China will be in line as GM’s second market after the U.S. to get the Volt.
